The National Construction Authority was part of a delegation led by Eastern Regional Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru that inspected the Isiolo International Airport on Thursday, 20th February.
The team, which included representatives of various government agencies covering the Eastern Region, was hosted by the Kenya Airports Authority. The Isiolo Airport, a Vision 2030 flagship project is part of the Lamu Port South Sudan and Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) was opened in July 2017. There are upgrade and renovation plans underway, especially to extend the current runway from 1.5 KM runway to the globally accepted 2.5 KM length.
The team also inspected the ongoing construction of a primary school, whose project owner is KAA. The school is to house the students of an existing property that stands within the flight path of planes taking off and landing from the airport which will eventually be removed.
Isiolo Airport is located on the border of Isiolo, in Isiolo County with half of the runaway extending into Meru County.
The NCA team was led by Susan Karanja, who serves on the Authority’s Board of Directors, and included the Upper Eastern Regional Coordinator Arch. Festus Mariera, Registration and Compliance Manager Qs. Susan Ruto, Administration Manager Daniel Kemei and Corporate Communications Manager Wangui Kabala.
Mr Nakoru emphasised on the need for strengthened inter agency cordination, to ensure the safety of the public as well as hastened approvals when it comes to construction.
The team also paid a courtesy call to Isiolo County Secretary Dr. Ahmed Galgalo, who pledged the full support of the county government for Authority activities in the area.
