The National Construction Authority on Friday, 16th February hosted contractors for a plant tour of Mabati Rollling Mills in Athi River as part of its Alternative Continuous Professional Development (CPD) training program
The tour, which was specifically meant for contractors registered under NCA categories 7 and 8, started with a demonstration on safety procedures followed by an in-depth presentation by officers from MRM’s business development department on best practices in roofing with a key focus on quality, cost efficient and solution oriented construction.
The contractors were also taught on emerging trends in roofing before proceeding for the plant tour which concluded with interactive demonstrations on modern roofing technology and techniques.
The contractors who attended the training were pleased with the day’s training. “Practical training, especially for contractors at the lower categories, is very helpful. The fact that there was a presentation detailing the business side of things makes me very glad I attended this training,” one of the contractors shared.
All those who attended the training will earn full CPD points (ten of them). Attending at least one training is a mandatory requirement for renewal of a contractor’s annual practicing license.
This was the second CPD training of its kind after the Authority rolled out the Alternative CPD Programme late last year in a bid to diversify the trainings and cater for the specific needs of contractors across the eight registration categories. The first such training was a similar tour of Savannah Cement’s Athi River Factory in November 2017.
Capacity Building is one of the Authority’s core functions. The next contractor training will cover the North Rift Region and will take place at Starbucks Hotel in Eldoret Town. The training will be on Cost Estimation for Construction Quality Management. Registration, payment and access to training certificates can all be done via the training portal on the Authority website, www.nca.go.ke.
