Acting National Construction Authority Executive Director Eng. Maurice Akech, on Thursday 13th September, 2018 led the Authority’s management in hosting Turkish ambassador to Kenya, Ahmet Cemil Miroglu who paid a courtesy visit to NCA Headquarters in Nairobi.
During the visit, The NCA management team and the Turkish delegation held preliminary talks on possible areas of collaboration between Turkey and Kenya with regard to the construction sector, with either party acting as go between for stakeholders from the two countries.
AMB. Miroglu highlighted the fact that Turkey has a Quasi-official government backed organization that undertakes mass social housing projects in the country as one example of how the collaboration can be beneficial to both parties.
“It is interesting that you are currently preparing to deliver social housing as part of the big for agenda, in Turkey we have TOKI, which is the organization that puts up affordable housing. We can have very fruitful collaboration interms of information exchange and capacity building seeing as we have already been through what you want to start doing” Said the Head Of Mission. The Ambassador also used the opportunity to extended an invitation to attend the second edition of the Turkey-Africa Economic and Business Forum in Istanbul in October.
In his remarks, Eng. Akech lauded the fact that the Ambassador had taken the initiative to maintain and strengthen cooperation between the Turkish embassy and NCA. “As an authority we have successfully collaborated with the Turkish embassy in the past and we are willing to continue and improve on this. Turkey is a construction power houses in its own right and we know that any partnerships that may be forthcoming will be of great Mutual benefit” he said.
Past collaborations between the Authority and The Turkish Embassy in Kenya include facilitation of contractors who attended the 1 st Turkey Africa Economic and Business Forum in Istanbul and a Technical Trainining and visit program to Istanbul and Ankara, both in 2016.
